Focus and Scope

The Journal of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the Global South (JCEEGS) focuses on advancing cutting-edge, contextually grounded research in civil and environmental engineering, with particular attention to the dynamic and diverse realities of the Global South. The journal prioritizes contributions that critically engage with the complexities of infrastructure development, environmental sustainability, and socio-technical transformation in regions experiencing rapid urbanization, climate vulnerability, and resource constraints.

JCEEGS welcomes high-quality original research articles, review papers, and practice-based studies that integrate engineering innovation with social, ecological, and institutional perspectives. The journal is especially interested in work that moves beyond universalized technical models, offering context-sensitive, adaptive, and scalable solutions that respond to real-world challenges. Interdisciplinary approaches that bridge engineering with policy, governance, and community-based practices are strongly encouraged.

The scope of the journal includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:

  • Sustainable and resilient infrastructure systems
  • Water resources engineering, sanitation, and wastewater management
  • Climate change adaptation, mitigation, and environmental resilience
  • Urban and regional infrastructure planning in the Global South
  • Sustainable construction materials and technologies
  • Transportation systems and mobility in emerging regions
  • Disaster risk reduction and infrastructure resilience
  • Environmental management and ecological engineering
  • Green technology and low-carbon engineering solutions
  • Socio-technical systems, governance, and engineering policy
  • Community-based and participatory engineering approaches
  • Innovation under constraint and frugal engineering practices

By positioning the Global South as a central site of knowledge production, JCEEGS seeks to amplify underrepresented perspectives and foster a more inclusive and balanced global discourse in engineering. The journal encourages submissions from scholars, practitioners, and policymakers worldwide who aim to contribute to impactful, policy-relevant, and socially responsive engineering solutions.

Through its rigorous double-blind peer review process and open-access publishing model, JCEEGS ensures the dissemination of high-quality, accessible, and globally relevant research, supporting the development of equitable, sustainable, and context-aware engineering practices.
