Abstract

Bullying continues to undermine the development of safe and inclusive learning environments, particularly in rural schools where preventive resources and support systems remain limited. This study investigates the implementation of a community-based anti-bullying intervention designed to enhance students’ awareness, strengthen inclusive school culture, and promote collaborative bullying prevention in rural Indonesia. Employing a Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) approach integrated with Participatory Action Research (PAR), the study was conducted at MTs Al-Hilaal Katapang, West Seram Regency, Maluku, involving 60 students, teachers, school leaders, and parents. Data were collected through observations, interviews, focus group discussions, pre- and post-intervention assessments, and participatory reflections. The intervention comprised five stages: needs assessment, anti-bullying education, participatory discussions, case-based simulations, and collective commitment-building activities. The findings reveal substantial improvements in students’ understanding of bullying, empathy, tolerance, and willingness to engage in prevention efforts. Furthermore, the program fostered stronger collaboration among school and community stakeholders, contributing to a more supportive and inclusive learning environment. The study proposes a Community-Based Anti-Bullying Intervention Model (CB-AIM) consisting of Assessment, Education, Participation, Reflection, and Collective Commitment. This model represents a shift from individual-centered bullying prevention toward a community-centered framework tailored to rural educational contexts. The findings highlight the importance of stakeholder collaboration in promoting sustainable bullying prevention and strengthening social resilience within school communities.
